Being Jewish Today with Author Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove
In the wake of the October 7th attack on Israel, the Jewish community has faced a new reality marked by a steep rise in antisemitism. Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove, in conversation with his former classmate Rabbi Sherre Hirsch, will discuss his new book For Such a Time as This: On Being Jewish Today. They will explore the enduring questions of Jewish identity and resilience, reflect on ways to navigate this new era, draw on ancient teachings to help Jews reconcile their past with the present, and face the future with hope and unity.
Rabbi Elliot J. Cosgrove, PhD, has been the Rabbi of Park Avenue Synagogue since 2008 and is a leading voice of American Jewry and a preeminent spiritual guide and thought leader. His new book, For Such a Time as This: On Being Jewish Today released in September, addresses some of the major challenges facing American Jewry today. Rabbi Cosgrove is a frequent contributor to Jewish journals and periodicals, the author of 15 volumes of sermons, and the editor of Jewish Theology in Our Time.
Rabbi Sherre Hirsch is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Collaborative which is a leadership community of women dedicated to peer-to-peer learning. She also served as the Chief Innovation Officer for American Jewish University. Prior to AJU, Hirsch served as Hillel International’s Senior Rabbinic Scholar. Hirsch launched her rabbinic career as the first woman rabbi at Sinai Temple, Los Angeles’s largest and oldest conservative synagogue. Since then, she has published two books with Random House and is a sought-after speaker, teacher, consultant, counselor and national media contributor. She is also one of Jewish Women International’s Women to Watch. She is married to Dr. Jeffrey Hirsch and resides in Los Angeles with their four children and foster son.
